One of the biggest frustrations that Associate Dentists experience when joining a new dental practice are quiet, or unproductive clinical days. It of may seem that little can be done when you are neither the practice owner, nor have control over the appointment book. In reality, there are several strategies you can implement to boost the number of patients you see, and in turn your revenue:
- Tip #1: Stop thinking like an “Associate” and act like a Practice Owner. What can you do to “promote” yourself? What options are available to you to improve your clinical skills when a patient cancels unexpectedly or if you have a quiet day ahead?
- Tip #2: During unscheduled cancellations: Use time blocking and do the “deep work” that is likely to generate more leads and bookings. Refer to Cal Newport’s book for the benefits of scheduling time blocks to improve productivity.
- Tip #3: Have agreements with your employer and staff about how you want your clinical day scheduled. Let them know what your ideal appointment time is each of your procedures, and what your preferences are if a patient reschedules.
With a little forward planning each day can be a productive one and moves you a step closer to a full appointment book.
“Productivity is never an accident. It is always the result of a commitment to excellence, intelligent planning, and focused effort.” – Paul J. Meyer
